Relations between St. Kitts-Nevis and the UK reap matual benefits
Basseterre, St. Kitts (January 24, 2008): Residents of St. Kitts and Nevis can expect continued cordial relations between the Federation and the United Kingdom following the visit of British High Commissioner H. E. Duncan Taylor.
Dignitaries gathered at the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club for a ceremony in honour of Mr. Taylor’s visit.
The High Commissioner, who has responsibility for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, said he travels throughout the region promoting British interests.
Commenting on the friendly nature of Kittitians, Mr. Taylor said it was no surprise that several citizens of Britain who have visited have chosen to make the Federation their home.~~Adz:Right~~
He noted his amazement at the pace of development in St. Kitts-Nevis since his last visit noting specifically the development on Port Zante as well as the plans for Christophe Harbour on the South Eastern Peninsula. He said he was very interested in the process and transformation that would occur.
Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Sam Condor expressed his pleasure at the visit of the High Commissioner at the star of the year when the Federation will celebrate 25 years of Independence from Great Britain.
The Deputy Prime Minister placed on record his wish that the “Mother Country” would provide input in the celebratory activities which would mark the milestone achievement.
He noted the statement made by Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Sir Dwight Venner just one night prior, in which he highlighted the outstanding economic performance of the Caribbean region despite the challenges of globalization.
Minister Condor said this was testimony of the maturity of the Caribbean Islands.
The Governor General His Excellency Sir Cuthbert Montraville Sebastian proposed a toast in honour of Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II.
