BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST hours after Vybz Kartel finished taping episode two of his recently launched reality TV show Teacha’s Pet, he was taken from a hotel into police custody for questioning. He was later slapped with a murder charge.
The ‘Me No Fraid A Nobody’ singer was also given two more charges of Illegal possession of a firearm and conspiracy to murder after allegations indicated that on Monday, July 11 2011, Kartel, along with other men, conspired to murder 27-year-old Barrington 'Bossie' Burton, a businessman/promoter.
He was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park.
Vybz Kartel was initially arrested for questioning after it is was alleged that a dead body was found in a house said to be owned by him, and that he had stopped sleeping in the home and was staying in a hotel.
According to news coming out of Jamaica, the body was found a few weeks ago and was
partially burnt and decomposing.
A news report from Caribbean fever.com indicated that a section of the premises was also burnt. A small quantity of ganja was also found in the hotel room and Vybz Kartel, along with three other persons was at that time given a charge for possession of the banned substance but that charge was later dropped.
Many are wondering what will happen to his new show and most importantly what will become of his singing career.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ealan Powell, made a statement and confirmed that Vybz Kartel's arrest is linked to a wider investigation. He said a press conference is to be held sometime next week.
Vybz Kartel who was born Adijah Palmer began singing in 1993 but it was not until 2003 that he broke out and began to get serious recognition.
He started out as a protégé of veteran Bounty Killer but then the two turned enemies and had an ongoing feud which steamed into Kartel’s –Portmore Empire against Bounty Killer’s – Alliance Crew.
Apart from being one of Jamaica’s top artistes, Kartel is also a business man and has launched a number of items including his famous Street Vybz Rum and Daggering Condoms. He once noted that one of his goals for 2011 is to release a shoe line named Addi’s.
Some of Vybz Kartel latest tracks include ‘Summer Time’, ‘Straight Jeans and Fitted’, ‘Duh Wey Yuh Wan Fi Duh’, ‘World Boss’ and ‘Freaky Gal’.
