BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the St. Kitts Nevis National Carnival celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year, 40 calendar events have been planned which means a number of new events will be taking place.
Some of the inclusions are a Gospel Concert, an all day street fair dubbed ‘Basseterre Alive’ in celebration of Carnivals past, an Art Exhibition and a series of Heritage Lectures promoting culture.
There will also be a Band Clash to ensure that our bands have the opportunity to showcase their talent on one night on one stage, as well as a Youth Rally in support of young people who continue to shine.
According to information given at an earlier press conference, a number of other changes this year would see the date of the Talented Teen Pageant and the Junior Calypso show moved from December 26 to December 16.
The Soca Monarch competition will also make a shift to a later date, in the heat of the festivities while the Calypso semi-finals will be moved to December 15.
The new Chairperson Shannon Hawley indicated at the conference that the children will go back to having their own Kiddies Carnival, and will have the opportunity to perform onstage at a particular venue and also be part of the Grand New Years Day Parade.
A new revamped Prince and Princess Pageant is also in the planned programme to make up for the hiatus of the Rotaract Carnival Prince and Princess show.
The Sugar Mas festivities will kick off from November 25 to January 3 with the official launch being held October 15 with a grand parade through the streets of Basseterre.
