Faces in the crowd at UVI: Asim Jenkins

    20 year old Asim Jenkins
(ST. THOMAS, USVI): Music is certainly a universal language and 20 year old Asim Jenkins is endeavouring to tactfully utilize his passion for music and his academic abilities to make a serious indentation into the world's music industry while at the same time holding the banner of his beloved country, St. Kitts and Nevis, high.

Ask anyone on campus for a recommendation on a producer and more than likely they will send you to Asim. It is perfectly clear----his passion is music, especially in the line of beat production.

What makes this strategy even more laudable is the fact that the initial steps to Asim realizing his dream are taking place at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), St. Thomas campus.

The young man is in his second semester in his pursuit of a degree in Marketing and whilst his academic abilities have earned him much respect on campus, it’s his passion for music that has made an even more significant impact on his career development. What makes this strategy even more laudable is the fact that the initial steps to Asim realizing his dream are taking place at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), St. Thomas campus.

The gifted young man has been working assiduously along the lines of music production for over four years and is presently working on releasing and Rap/R&B cd, where he has written all the beats.

Even though he is young, he has had quite some experience in the music production field. He is presently working on an LP for the two most recent winners of Virgin Islands Idol (the equivalent of Kittitian Superstar).  ~~Adz:Right~~

Additionally, he has worked with a number of other local and regional artistes. He has done work for the St. Kitts based Hip Hop group, Da Embassy, and because of Asim's excellent reputation on and off campus he has established links with Team Muzzle in the US, which features Rap star Noreaga amongst others.

Even though he specializes in Rap and Hip Hop beats, the young man is skilled in writing beats for all genres of music including the up-tempo Soca, party and R&B.

In response to how he manages to balance his school work and his passion for music, Asim noted that once you prioritize your goals, things will work out fine. Asim is quick to underscore the need for a sound education and spoke glowingly of his intention to excel academically.

"To get anywhere today you really have to capitalize and consolidate on every educational opportunity," he stated. "However, because you're doing such does not mean that you can't follow up on your passion.”

The young man was also quick to express his appreciation to his family and friends, who have been extremely supportive of his efforts to fulfill his goals in life.

Most certainly, Asim is yet another ambassador of St. Kitts and Nevis on the UVI campus and he just adds to the list of reasons why Kittitians and Nevisians are highly regarded as students with purpose.
