~~Adz:Left~~ BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A report of an attempted break-in at the home of a Basseterre resident resulted in a man being shot by police.

Information reaching SKNVibes indicates that the incident occurred at about 1:00 on Saturday morning at house said to belong to the Salvation Army in which officials of the said institution reside.

According to reports, a resident of the house contacted the police and filed a report indicating that someone was in their yard and was attempting to break into the house.

The police quickly responded and on arrival on the scene the assailant, identified as 28-year-old Raymond Rawlins of Malone Avenue, hid himself and told the police he was carrying a gun.

SKNVibes understands that sometime during the incident Rawlins attempted to wrestle a firearm from one of the officers and, in so doing, was shot in the abdomen.

Rawlins, according to reports, was rushed to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He is currently in the surgical ward and is said to be in stable condition.

SKNVibes understands that charges will be preferred against him sometime today. However, when contacted, Public Relations and Press Officer of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Inspector Cromwell Henry, said he could not say what the charge(s) would be because investigations were ongoing.
