St. Peters man hospitalised after traffic accident

Fire and Rescue called in for extrication

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A large crowd, a unit from the Fire and Rescue Services and police officers gathered on the St. Peters main road earlier this afternoon (Oct. 9) as word quickly spread that a serious traffic accident had occurred.

When SKNVibes arrived on scene, a badly damaged Nissan Bluebird P9627 was discovered in the vicinity of the road ‘bend’ adjacent to the St. Peters Anglican Church yard.

The vehicle was driven by Anthony ‘Lammy’ Davis of St. Peters.

According to reports, Davis was travelling eastward along the road and after stopping his vehicle in the vicinity of the Constituency Office, he was struck from the rear by a Suzuki jeep (P9386).

The circumstances which led to accident are still very unclear and at best, sketchy.

Davis’ vehicle reportedly travelled some distance after the impact as it made its way up the side of the hill on the southern side of the road, scraped a considerable portion of bark off a tree before coming to a halt in the vicinity of the Anglican Churchyard.

Because Davis was trapped in his vehicle, the Fire and Rescue Services quickly began its operation in extricating him from the wreckage.

With the use of a metal-cutting apparatus identified as the ‘Jaws of Life’, and after approximately 40 minutes of work, officers of the Fire and Rescue were successful in extracting Davis from the vehicle.

He was then placed into the unit’s ambulance and transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital.

    His condition however remains unclear.
