250ml Fruta Orange Juice Drink bottles recalled in Barbados
~~Adz:Left~~ BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: A batch of 250 ml Fruta Orange Juice Drink in Plastic Bottles has recently been recalled from the Barbados market. The batch in question has an expiry date of May 2 2008 and was not shipped to other countries.
Some bottles of this flavour and size of Fruta have been found to be unsuitable for consumption. However, as a precautionary measure all of the bottles of 250ml Fruta Orange Juice Drink have been removed from shops in Barbados.
This situation developed with shipments which were transported in refrigerated containers rather than the standard non-refrigerated shipping containers. The drastic contrast between the very cold temperatures in the refrigerated containers and the warehouse storage temperatures that are typical in Barbados caused excessive condensation. This led to the growth of a mould on the EXTERIOR OF THE BOTTLES similar to that found in cheese.
The problem is specific and confined to orange juice in small 250ml plastic bottles since this is the only flavour which was shipped in refrigerated containers. These refrigerated containers were only used on two occasions. All the other Fruta products are shipped and will continue to be shipped in standard shipping containers.
It must be noted that our quality assurance officers in Barbados have verified that all other Fruta products are not affected and are safe for consumption. Further, we assure you that this incident applies only to our 250ml size of Fruta Orange Juice Drink in the plastic bottle and only in Barbados.
We assure that all future shipments of Fruta orange juice drinks will be safe and wholesome as they have been over the last 25 years of production.
