    Sean John voted “Constable of the Year”

    CHARLESTWOWN, Nevis - Sean John is this year’s Nevis Division Constable of the Year.
     
    At a colourful and very significant ceremony held at the Old Manor Hotel in Gingerland, Sean John was announced the Most Outstanding Constable in 2007, while Constables Leasa Daniel and Valentine Hodge were First and Second Runners-Up respectively.
     
    Others who were awarded for their excellent performance were Constables Ornet Hendrickson, Mitchell Hobson, Eurita Percival, Alistar Caines, Ray Gordon and Delroy Harris.
     
    The ceremony was witnessed by among others, Governor-General Sir Cuthbert Sebastian, Deputy Governor-General Eustace John, Nevis Premier Joseph Parry, Attoney General    Dennis Merchant, Commissioner of Police Austin Williams, Acting Superintendent Nevis Division Samuel Seabrookes, Opposition leader Nevis and leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement Vance Amory and Leader of the Opposition in the Federal Parliament Mark Brantley.
     
    John stood out as Best Constable due to the passion, dedication and commitment that
    Constable Valentine Hodge
    characterise his service. He is very well received by the communities he serves, has excellent communication skills, a passion for helping others and believes in the proactive approach to policing.
     
    He can be often seen interacting with residents within areas of his beat, has great relations with those he works with and is always willing to share his experiences and knowledge with his colleagues.
     
    He is especially passionate about the plight of children and the issue of domestic abuse, and is often contacted by parents and guardians, even from outside of the district, to counsel and help guide delinquents. 

    He is sought by numerous others for advice and counselling and is not afraid to speak out in support of safe and comfortable working environment for personnel.
     
    ~~Adz:Left~~ John joined the Police Force in April 1991. He started his career at Beat and Patrol in Charlestown and was four years later transferred to Cotton Ground Police Station. 

    He successfully completed the Sergeant’s Promotional Examination in 1998 and was the Station Officer in charge of the Cotton Ground Police district for more than a year. He was transferred from Cotton Ground to Traffic Department in 2000 and from there to his present location in 2003.
     
    Constable John has attended a number of local and regional training courses and seminars including Constable’s Refresher Course, both in St. Kitts and Barbados; RSS Basic Course in 2000; Drug Interdiction Course; and a number of Tradewinds Exercises, the latest being in Belize in 2007.
     
    In Belize he received a Tan Belt certification from the US Marines as an instructor/trainer in Marine Corps Martial Arts, and has the distinction of being the only police officer certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (E.M.T) – a programme he attended at the United States Military Southern Command in 2003. 

    He  has also successfully completed RSS Leadership Course in Grenada in 2006.
