SKNDF Coast Guard Responds to Search and Rescue of Local Fishing Vessel
~~Adz:Left~~ The St Kitts Nevis Defence Force Coast Guard (SKNFCG) on Tuesday 19 February 2008 at about 7:20pm received a report from Mr Collin Matthew of East Street Newtown that a fishing vessel FV LADY SEA capsized about 250 meters from shores at canoe bay.
FV Lady Sea, a 18feet long blue and white boat with a 25 Hp outboard engine is indicated to belong to a Mr Everton Seabrookes of Newtown. Mr Matthew who was the Captain of FV Lady Sea reported that Kita Williams and Dula Maynard both Newtown project and himself were on a fishing expedition to pull some fish traps when a huge wave hit their boat broadside and it capsized.
Mr Matthew said they were swimming hard against a strong current in a struggle to get to shore after the incidence, when he called out to Kita Williams and Dula Maynard who were ahead of him to slow down and take it easy.
However, Matthew said suddenly he notice that he lost visual contact the two men. Mr Matthew swam to shore where he conducted a search hoping to find his colleagues but there was no sign of them, it was at that point Mr Matthew said he made his way to the Coast Guard to report the incidence.
The St Kitts Nevis Defence Force Coast Guard responded immediately and has conducted several searches of the area where the incidence occurred and beyond with no signs of the missing men or the boat. The Coast Guard continues to conduct searches around the coastal waters of the federation. The SKNDFCG will like to appeal to the public that whoever may have information relating to the FV Lady Sea incidence not to hesitate to contact the Coast Guard at 869-466-7312 or 869-465-8384 or the nearest police station.
