    Eight arrested and charged by police

    ~~Adz:Left~~ BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EIGHT individuals on St’ Kitts and Nevis were arrested and charged between February 22-24, 2008 for suspected involvement in illegal activities.
     
    Guyon England, a resident of West Bourne Ghaut, was on Friday, February 22 arrested and charged on one count of “possession of cannabis”.
     
    On the following day, February 23, Ednead ‘Moses’ Patrick of Tabernacle was arrested and charged for allegedly committing a February 22 offence of “wounding with intent”, while Clayton Powell of St. Pauls Village was also arrested on the said day and charged with “battery on a police officer”.  The offence, according to police, was committed on February 23.
     
    “Wounding with intent” and “indecent assault” were the charges preferred against Tabernacle Village resident Justin Gibson. According to a police press release, Gibson was arrested and formally charged with the offences on February 23. The alleged offences however, were committed on the previous day.
     
    ‘Beef’, legally known as Dion Griffith of Cotton Ground, Nevis, was arrested and charged on February 23 for “possession of controlled drugs”, while Julian Flemming of Newton Ground was arrested on Sunday and charged with “making use of threatening language”.
     
    And on the same day [Sunday, February 24] Kevin Bergan of West Farm and Kasim Peters of Pitcairn Street, Newtown were arrested and charged with “carrying abroad an offensive weapon”.
     
    All persons listed above will appear before one of the Federation’s Magistrate Courts shortly, where they will answer to the charges brought against them.
     
    In other news, the police are sticking to their commitment to bring about and maintain safety and law and order in the Federation. According to a police press release, police officers, on Sunday conducted “routine stop and search operations” on eight persons who were in the Fort Street, Bus and Ferry Terminal, College Street, Church Street, Baker’s Corner and Independence Square areas. 
     
    The searches did not yield any illegal find, but the police maintain that they “will continue their efforts to rid the Federation of illegal guns, drugs and ammunition”.
