BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: Fire trucks raced to a Thibou Avenue home today (Feb 27) after they received a report that a house was on fire in an alley in that location.
According to Fire Service Supervisor Felix Frederick, the department received a telephone call at about 2p.m. from someone who said that their neighbor’s house was on fire.
They responded immediately to find fire emanating from the basement level of a two-storey concrete house, which according to neighbors, was inhabited by a construction worker known only as ‘Shorty’.
The occupant was not at home at the time.
Frederick revealed that they had to break into the home to oust the fire as the doors to the structure were locked.
“When we got into the bedroom, we discovered a sponge on a bed frame engulfed in flames. We managed to extinguish the fire before it spread to the rest o the house but the contents of the bedroom were already destroyed,” he told SKNVibes.com at the scene.
According to one neighbor, fire services had been called to that same house at least twice before.
Felix noted that the cause of the fire was not known at the time but an investigation into the matter will take place.
