human remains found at Palmetto Point

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A resident of Palmetto Point was on Wednesday taken aback upon the discovery of what was believed to be human remains.

The man, who according to a police report, was adhering to his regular routine of tending his livestock when he stumbled upon the startling discovery.

Police informed that they were briefed on the situation and made quick response by journeying to the area in an effort to conduct investigations. Their efforts then, however, proved futile as they were unable to reach the specified area owing to “the terrain and poor lighting in the area”.

On Thursday morning, nevertheless, a “search party” comprising officers attached to the Old Road Police Station and members of the District ‘B’ Crime Response Unit, along with the District Medical Doctor (DMO), set out to canvass the area in an attempt to substantiate or refute the claim.

According to a police press release, the remains were found and while the DMO was able to confirm that the bones were in fact those of a human being, the medical official was unable to ascertain to whom they belonged. ~~Adz:Right~~

“The remains were removed and kept for further forensic examination to establish identity and possible cause of death,” the press release informs.

During the latter quarter of last year, a man from the Challengers, Thomas Lynner, was reported missing, and according to an article carried on SKNVibes’ website on Monday, November 12, 2007, he was last seen on Thursday, November 8, 2007 “in the vicinity of a house at Willis Ghaut, Challengers” dressed “in a dark blue short pant, dark blue polo shirt and a pair of draggers.”

The article also described the 79-year-old as being of dark complexion, medium built and measuring 5’ 6” in height.

SKNVibes made contact with the police in connection with this matter and they informed that Lynner was never found.

Press and Public Relations Officer of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Inspector Cromwell Henry, told SKNVibes that forensic testing would be conducted on the bones locally in effort to establish the identity and cause of death.

He also said that should this task prove greater than the relevant authorities here, alternative measures would be employed.
