Bring Your Pan and Come - CHAMBALAY is back!

Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, October 24th 2011 - This year's CHAMBALAY weekend is quickly edging closer, so interested persons have only a few more days left to secure their chance to take part in one of the festivity's four major events.

Since the Sandy Point community group SPIRIT, the makers of the widely-celebrated Black San Bang-A-Lang festival, rolled out its CHAMBALAY plans, registration to its events has received an overwhelming response. The event kicks off on Saturday, November 5, in a collaborative effort with SPAFA with an all-day Grass-roots Football exhibition. Come out and support the young ballers up against each other in their first expo since the start of the programme.

All eyes are set on the CHAMBALAY street jam which takes the Saturday celebrations into the night. This year, you have the opportunity to join in the merry-making by registering to be part of the CHAMBALAY Iron Band Troupe! For a small price of ECD$ 25, you can collect your own CHAMBALAY t-shirt, specially-made torch, flashing necklace and a chance to jam through the streets to the sweet sounds of steel pan and the traditional iron band. Secure your package by contacting Laura Richardson at (869) 662 2500. Be quick, because registration closes on November 3.

Signing up for the new CHAMBALAY Iron Band troupe allows you free admission to the first-ever Guinness Street Football Challenge, the crowd-drawing event which will bring the street jam to an end by awakening the Sandy Point Hard Court later that Saturday, at about 8:30pm. Spaces for registration are going quickly, so 7-member teams (including a goal keeper) are asked to contact Tristley Bassue, Head of SPIRIT's Sports, Health and Fitness Division at (869) 662 4200 or via email sandypointspirit@gmail.com, before November 3. There will be plenty prizes and give-aways compliments Carib Breweries (SKN), so be sure to sport your team colors and be ready to cheer from the sidelines as MixKluSiv Sounds will be on hand to drive you into frenzy!

Sunday's (Nov. 6) event is the road-blocking Kart Part Olympics; the event which organizers are confident will be a fun experience for all! For events like pitching, bike wheelie, skipping, the barefoot race, you may show up for on-site registration. But for team games, like wheel barrow races, street shoot-out, 5x100m relays and kart race, interested persons are encouraged to contact us via sandypointspirit@gmail.com to register your group. The bucket cover and car-tyre races and also the hand stand competitions are expected to evoke old Sandy Point memories.

Be among the first to get your map of the route so you can practice going around the sharp bends and steep slopes in the Back road bike race and marathon. Also, the elastic chords are ready for those still able to play M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I, all you need to do is contact us via email or the given contact number.

The countdown is on, the excitement building and now all we need is for you to join us as CHAMBALAY reignites community traditions and pride!
