Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, October 24th 2011 -  The Deputy Governor’s Office will be launching their premier public service magazine, World Class on Tuesday, October 25 at 11:30 a.m. on the grounds of the Central Administration Building.

World Class is a public service leadership magazine for the Virgin Islands created through the collaborative efforts of the Deputy Governor’s Office and the Department of Human Resources. The publication is designed to provide current and cutting edge information on the work and management of the public service, and managing and developing talent for and within the public service.

Deputy Governor Mrs. V. Inez Archibald speaking to the Department of Information and Public Relations explained that the, “Inaugural edition features timely topics relative to the management of the public service in these critical times, the development of talent for the public service, and key messages from His Excellency the Governor, the Premier and other top managers of the Virgin Islands Public Service.”

She added, “The magazine is important to the public service because it crystallises our mandate. We know that we are not where we need to be but if our reach is to exceed our grasp, this magazine is going to charter and put us on our way.”

“Public officers can expect from the magazine, an education, reasons to read, reasons to learn, a cross-section of information from across the service, and in time they can expect to make their own contribution if they so choose,” the Deputy Governor shared.

The magazine is comprised of ten strategic articles, which speak to various critical topics relative to the work of the Public Service. Some of the submissions include, “A New Labour Code” penned by former Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour, Mr. Clyde Lettsome and “The New Economy” authored by the Financial Secretary, Mr. Neil Smith.

A critical but exciting part of the magazine is the self enhancement articles, which are intended to provide current information on key skills and competencies and how to improve them in order to remain competitive.

The World Class magazine is another initiative of the Deputy Governor’s Office on its quest to transform the public service into a world class service. It is also intended to foster reform in the public service by providing a tangible icon for the public as well as employees of the public service.
