Bird Rock Traffic Accident confirmed

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

Fatal four-bus traffic accident classified as false and malicious

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Conaree man was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital earlier today (Oct. 26) having suffered a broken limb after being struck by a motor vehicle.

The incident, according to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s Traffic Department, occurred approximately 9:15 a.m. at Bird Rock and involved Glenroy Hendrickson of Conaree and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce, and Consumer Affairs, Ambassador Rosalyn Hazelle.

“The accident involved motor van P3553 driven by Rosalyn Hazelle of North Pelican Drive, Bird Rock and a Pedestrian Glenroy Hendrickson of Conaree. Investigations revealed that the pedestrian was crossing the road when he was struck by the van. He was taken to the JNF Hospital where he was treated for a broken arm,” the release states.

It indicates that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Meanwhile, rumours circulated earlier today suggesting that a traffic accident had taken place along the eastern corridor of the island, resulting in the tragic death of four individuals, have been proven to be false.

SKNVibes caught wind of the rumours after which calls were placed to officials of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s Traffic Department and informed them of the buzz. They indicated that they had no knowledge of any such incident taking place.

This media house conducted its own investigations and journeyed along the island’s eastern bus route, combing through the different villages for signs of a traffic accident.

Some of the rumours suggested that the accident occurred in the Cayon area while some suggested that it took place in Lodge, and others indicated that it might have taken place in Christ Church Village.

After making an extensive search of the villages which line the eastern corridor of the island, this publication found no evidence to substantiate the rumours.

SKNVibes’ findings were confirmed by the Traffic Department which, during the same press release, sought to “dispel rumours that there was a fatal traffic accident involving four passenger buses in the country area. There was no report of such accident at any of the police stations around the island”.

The Department classified the rumour as “false and malicious” and it has asked members of the public to “refrain from circulating unconfirmed reports, as they cause unnecessary anxiety in the public.”
