Rosalyn Hazelle, Ambassador for the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts-COMMERCE and Consumer Affairs Ambassador Rosalyn Hazelle unveiled a song and jingle writing competition at a press conference Wednesday (March 19th), designed to “foster greater interaction between the Department [of Consumer Affairs] and the public.”

The three minute song portion of the competition will be restricted to person age 12-18 and will be used as a foundation for Consumer Affairs events and awareness campaigns.

“The reason we are limiting the age group for the song is that we hope to reach young people; so, it is important that they are involved in this process,” said Hazelle. The jingle will be a ninety second spot and will be available to musicians who are 19 years and older.

“Both the song and the jingle should deal with the consumers rights and responsibilities while emphasizing the theme we have developed ‘No Monkey Business,’ said the Ambassador. She then presented the new Consumer Affairs mascot; a stuffed monkey donning a Consumer
    No Monkey Business” mascot
    Affairs-sloganned T-shirt.

“Submissions for the competition should be short, catchy and sweet,” stated Hazelle, “and any style of music can be used.”

To be considered as part of the competition, applicants should include their name, address, age, contact information and lyrics sheet with their tape or CD submission.

All packages should be sent to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs; Church Street; Basseterre.

The competition deadline is April 30th and the winner of each contest will receive “attractive” prizes according to Hazelle, though specific awards have not been determined yet.

~~Adz:Left~~ Hazelle also stated that the winning submissions would become the sole property of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs.

During the press conference, Hazelle also stated that the Ministry planned to further their development of public awareness programs by creating a website, a bi-weekly radio program and making their representatives available to schools, factories and local businesses for consumer affairs presentations.
