    Operation Future at it again

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER a three-month lull, Operation Future has kicked into high gear as officers of the unit took to the Cayon Primary School earlier this morning to educate children about dealing with the wrongs and rights they would face growing into adulthood.

The officers started out by engaging in the usual morning assemble with the school to make the children a bit more comfortable with their presence. The children were offered an opportunity to become more acquainted with the Operation Future team as they introduced themselves.

Corporal Lauston Percival, Founder and President of Operation Future, asked for a number of the children to volunteer in singing; a request to which three responded and went forward but nine-year-old Shaquanda Douglas left everyone amazed as her melodious voice filled the room.  ~~Adz:Right~~

On the more serious side of things, Percival spoke to the children about gangs and the various colors they claim to represent, which the children seemed to know very well.

“A life of crime is no good,” he said, emphasizing that it only leads to what he called ‘C.J.J.’ (Cemetery, Jail or JNF).

The law enforcement officer also showed the students the different types of illegal drugs and paraphernalia and told them of the effects they could have on them if they should engage in their use.  The children were encouraged to SAY NO to drugs.

“Choose your friends wisely and set a good foundation,” Percival said, adding. “Now is the time to get your education, because without a good education you cannot go anywhere.”

The exercise ended as Officer Percival, on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, fellow officers and on his own behalf, thanked the school’s administrators for allowing them into the school to talk to the students.

The students and teachers, through Angela Mathew, a Grade Three teacher, thanked the officers and told them that they would continue to play their part to help wipe out the violence that pervades the Federation.

This is the second school that the team visited since the resumption of Operation Future.
