~~Adz:Left~~ CHARLESTOWN, Nevis: Tafari Vaughan Tyson will serve a one year jail term for stealing EC$374.25 from Superfoods Supermarket, Nevis.

Prior to sentencing Tyson yesterday, Magistrate Yasmine Clarke said Vaughan has constantly been fined in the past for committing offences.

According to Police Prosecutor, Tyson was caught stealing by Julian Freeman a security officer who was working at Superfoods.  Freeman noticed that Vaughan was acting suspiciously inside the supermarket and called the Charlestown Police station.

Inspector Mills told the court that officers of the Criminal Investigating Department had responded immediately.  Constable Caines found Tyson inside the supermarket’s office and close to him was a coin bag.  Tyson had removed the bag from where Ken Evelyn, one of the owners of the supermarket, had placed it.

Constable Caines secured the bag and it contained two other bags that had coins.  Vaughan was arrested and charged.

In the same court, Samuel Nanton of Craddock Road, was fined EC$800 by Magistrate Yasmine Clarke for being in possession of cannabis.  Nanton is required to pay the fine within one month.  He committed the offence on March 11, 2008.

According to Police Prosecutor, on the material day, Constable Ray Gordon and other officers executed a search warrant on premises of Samuel Nanton and found one transparent plastic bag containing cannabis.

The drug was found in the pocket of his jean pants which was among some clothing.  Nanton was arrested and taken to police custody. He was later charged.
