BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE body of a male resident of Herbert Street, Newtown (in the vicinity of Texas Bar) was last night found hanging from a genip tree and residents in the area said the act was self-inflicted.

Reports reaching SKNVibes state that about 9:30 last night Colin Thompson of Herbert Street, Newtown hanged himself from a tree next door to Texas Bar.

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes found that the body had already been removed, but friends and associates of the deceased were willing to provide information on their perceived reasons for his action.

One individual claimed that Thompson was suffering from Post Trauma Depression and was on medication for this illness.

“Colin was my friend. He was a hard worker and one of the best in the construction field. However, because of his addiction his life’s ambition could not have been achieved. Like myself, Colin was on medication for his addiction and many days he could not have afforded to purchase it,” said a friend of the deceased.

He stated that the medication would have normally been purchased from the Newtown Health Centre, but for some time now they were out of supply and Thompson said he had to resort to the City Drug Store, where the price was much higher.

“We would go to the Health Centre and purchase a week’s supply of medication for only EC$10. But since they were out of the much needed tablets, we had to resort to the City Drug Store and pay EC$40 for the same amount of tablets. This, and another ailment, may have caused Colin to hang himself,” he concluded.

Another individual told SKNVibes that the 43-year-old deceased had tried to commit suicide on a number of occasions but was rebuked of such action by concerned friends and associates.~~Adz:Right~~

“Only last week he had tried to kill himself but a number of us talked him out of it.  Colin was a troubled man.  I can remember when he told us that it would be better for him to kill himself rather than take the life of another human being. Well, as friends, we cannot be with him 24/7 and this is the result…he’s dead, gone to the great beyond.  I am certain that he would be greatly missed, not only by family members but also all those who knew how good a construction worker he was.”

According to the Police Press and Public Relation Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry, at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, officers at the Basseterre Police Station received a report that a man was found hanging from a tree in Herbert Street, Newtown.

Inspector Henry told this media house that following investigations no foul play was suspected.
