General Manager of TDC Home and Building Depot Glenville Jeffers hands over the key to the Mitsubishi Mini Van to Major Joseph Jones while Lieutenant Kayode Sutton looks on
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Motor Transport Section of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) got a fillip with the timely donation of a vehicle from the TDC Group of Companies Limited.

The event took place yesterday at TDC Home and Building Depot in the presence of members of the local media and senior employees of the corporate entity.

In handing over the key of a Mitsubishi Space Gear Mini Van to Major Joseph Jones, Commanding Officer B Company, SKNDF, General Manager of TDC Home and Building Depot Glenville Jeffers said the company was pleased to donate the vehicle to the army in recognition of the significant role it plays in the safety and security of the nation.

“On behalf of the TDC Group of Companies and by extension the Home and Building Depot, we recgnise the significant role the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force plays in the safety and security of our citizens, and we feel that their presence in the business community has contributed to the protection of our assets…booth human and physical and we are also confident that they are doing a very successful job.

“We are therefore delighted to make this donation of a Mitsubishi Space Gear Mini Van to assist the Defence Force in achieving its objective. We are confident that this vehicle will complement the ongoing law enforcement efforts they are undertaking. Therefore, on behalf of the TDC Group of Companies, it gives me great pleasure to present the key of the vehicle to the representative of the Defence Force, Major Jones,” Jeffers said.  ~~Adz:Right~~

The General Manager declared that the vehicle is valued at EC$20 000 and expressed the hope that members of the Defence Force would use it in their best interest.

He also pointed out that over the years, the vehicle was used regularly by the Defence Force for a number of national events, including Music Festival and Cricket World Cup and so “we are basically handing over their vehicle in a formal ceremony”.

In response, Major Jones said he was delighted to have received the vehicle and extended his gratitude the Chairman of the TDC Board of Directors and also its members.

“I must say a very big thank you to Mr. Michael Morton and members of the Board of Directors at TDC. This vehicle will help to improve our needs as regards to transportation for B Company. Therefore, on behalf of the Commander, Officers and Ranks of the Defence Force, I thank you very much.”

According to Major Jones, the SKNDF was sharing the use of the vehicle with TDC, and rather seeking favours on a regular basis, he decided to write a letter to Mr. Michael Morton requesting ownership of it.

He said the Company that he commands does not own a vehicle and the Mini Van would alleviate some of the past problems they have had in transporting his troops, especially those who reside in the rural areas.

This donation has not been the first by TDC. According to a senior member of the Group of Companies, TDC has made many contributions to the Federation’s Security Forces, including refrigerators, television sets, computers and office furniture as part of its corporate social responsibilities.
