    Jailed for threatening police officer’s life

    ~~Adz:Right~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - DAVIAN JARVIS of Lodge Village will now think twice before beating or issuing threats to members of the Federation’s Police Force, especially since similar acts have landed him in jail.

    Arising from an incident that occurred on Thursday, March 27, 2008, Jarvis was charged with “escaping lawful custody”, “making use of threatening language”, “battery on police”, “resisting arrest” and “disorderly conduct” and appeared before the District “A” Magistrate’s Court on Thursday last.
     
    A police press release states that the above mentioned charges were preferred against Jarvis after he “became very aggressive and threatened to kill an officer” while “police attempted to arrest (him)…”
     
    On the first charge, Jarvis was sentenced to one month imprisonment while on the second and third charges he was sentenced to serve two months and six months respectively at Her Majesty’s Prison. All sentences are to run concurrently.
     
    Jarvis was also convicted of “disorderly conducted” but was cautioned by the Magistrate.
     
    In other court news, a number of persons appeared before the District “A” Magistrate Traffic Court having been charged will a number of traffic violations.
     
    Frigate Bay resident Ann Basta was convicted of “driving without insurance” and “driving without a valid and expired driver’s license” and was fined $700 to be paid in one week or 14 days in prison on the first offence and $150 in one week or one week on the second offence.
     
    Kegel Phipps of Fort Thomas Road was charged with “driving an unregistered vehicle”, “driving an unlicensed vehicle” and “driving without insurance”. On the first charge he was convicted and fined $300 to be paid in one week or two weeks imprisonment. On the second and third charges, he was convicted, cautioned and fined $200 to be paid within one week or two weeks in prison respectively.
     
    Five hundred dollars is the sum to be paid by Teshaw Walwyn of Greenlands as punishment for “driving without due care and attention”.  He has one day to pay the fine or serve one week in prison.
     
    “Driving without due care and attention” was the offence of which Vernon Belle of Molineaux was convicted. He was fined $400 which is to be paid within one month or he has to serve one month in prison.
     
    For “driving an unlicensed vehicle”, Steven Adonis Bridgewater of Westbourne Ghaut was ordered to pay $250 forthwith or serve one week in prison.
