    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, November 15th, 2011  – The Sandy Lane Centre has chosen a winner for its slogan contest, which will be used for the upcoming Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Awareness month to be observed in January 2012.

    The Centre’s winning choice “Don’t give up, don’t give in. With hope substance abuse cannot win,” was submitted by Ms. Romana Peters. Ms. Peters, a Morgan and Morgan Trust Corporation Limited employee, was among 32 individuals who participated in the competition.

     

    She said, “I thought that it would be a good idea to contribute what should be the slogan for the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Awareness month.”Sandy Lane Manager Ms. Andrea Hamm said that “the management and staff of the Centre were delighted by the great response for the first slogan competition.”

     

    She added, “The Centre has planned several events aimed at engaging various sectors. Members of the community are encouraged to participate.” Activities for the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Awareness month include a church service, poetry and arts competition and a concert.

     

    Ms. Peters’ prize for winning the competition included a fruit basket and a new Kindle Touch, which will be released world-wide on November 21.

     

    The Sandy Lane Centre, established in 1995, operates as a unit within the Ministry of Health and Social Development. Its mission includes providing drug and alcohol rehabilitation to those in the Virgin Islands suffering from addiction, using a holistic approach to recovery.
