Local Sailors to receive International Documentation

Following a recent visit to St. Kitts and Nevis, the International Registrar of Shipping & Seamen, Nigel E. Smith presented Director of St. Kitts Maritime Affairs, McClean Hobson with one of the upgraded Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) as issued to seafarers sailing on St. Kitts and Nevis Flag Vessels.

The CDC records detail the training courses that the seafarer has completed and their service onboard St. Kitts & Nevis ships. Such training courses can include the basic STCW (Standards of Training & Certificate of Watch-keepers) which have been carried out in St. Kitts under the auspices of the Department of Maritime Affairs and other relevant courses such as fire-fighting, personal safety and specialist maritime training.

The sea service record shows the time spent onboard St. Kitts & Nevis ships, which is an essential record for those wishing to undertake examinations for Certificates of Competency to enable them to serve as Officers and other ranks on the ships.

These CDCs were designed in conjunction with Messrs Diletta GmBH of Frankfurt, Germany and incorporate security features to prevent forgery. St. Kitts and Nevis International Ship Registry has also invested in new printing equipment and software from Diletta to handle the increasing number of applications from seafarers. Diletta supplies many Governments with passport printers and the International Ship Registry is using the same equipment to produce a quality document.  ~~Adz:Right~~

The International Ship Registry is also working with Diletta in adapting Diletta's 'Passbase' software database for the keeping seafarers’ records and processing their applications. Currently, over 2000 seafarers have been issued with CDCs and other certification for use onboard St. Kitts and Nevis ships.

St. Kitts and Nevis nationals requiring CDCs or other seafarer documentation should apply to the Director of Maritime Affairs, Mr. McClean Hobson or the local Maritime Registrar, Alan Trass at 1-869-466-032/4846 or 1-869-466-3330.
