BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER more than five weeks of relative calm and no reports on shooting incidents in the Federation, a 17-year-old lad was this morning (Nov. 25) shot in Irishtown.

Reports reaching SKNVibes indicate that sounds of gunfire were heard sometime before 11:00 this morning in McKnight. However, on investigating, it was revealed that the incident occurred in Salt Pond Alley, Irishtown, Basseterre.

On arrival at the scene, this media house had observed a number of Crime Scene Technicians under the guidance of forensic expert Lieutenant Alexander combing the area for possible items of evidential value.

It was also observed that three small yellow plastic objects were placed at various points in the area of the crime scene, indicating the find of spent shells.

Speaking with SKNVibes, a male resident of Irishtown said he heard about five shots being fired in the vicinity of Salt Pond Alley at about 10:45 a.m., and shortly after he saw a young man from the neighbourhood running west along Fort Thomas Road.

The resident also said that the juvenile was shot in the lower part of one of his legs.

This was confirmed by the police who stated that the juvenile was taken to the JNF Hospital, where he was treated for his injury and discharged.

The police also stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
