BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - MEMBERS of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force Drug Awareness and Resistance Education Programme (DARE) were the recipients of a Nissan Sunny vehicle today.

At a simple but significant ceremony held at the SL Horsford’s Automotive Showroom on Wellington Road, Automotive/Marketing Executive Valentine Monish handed over a Nissan Sunny 2000 Model vehicle to Assistant Commissioner Joseph Liburd.

According to Monish, the vehicle is armed with a 1500cc engine, air-condition unit, power steering, power windows and automatic door locks, and is valued at EC$32 000.

Liburd, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police and ranks, thanked  that SLH & Co Ltd. for the corporate citizen gesture and assured Monish that the vehicle would be used for the purpose intended - to assist the DARE Programme in carrying out its functions.

Emphasising the objectives of the drug awareness programme, Liburd said, “If we can reach all the children in the Federation through the DARE Programme, and we save at least one, that will be a child well-saved.”    ~~Adz:Right~~

DARE Coordinator Inspector Lyndon David also thanked Monish for the vehicle and assured him that the officers would care it, noting the donation would have far-reaching effects on generations of youth to come.

DARE has been in existence for just over 12 years and educates children in the Federation from grade four about drugs and how to resist them, as well as the activities they can sometimes lead to (such as gangs and violence).
