Greg  Gilpin-Payne, Digicel St. Kitts-Nevis Country Manager
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WIRELESS telecommunications operator Digicel yesterday announced that Kittitian national Greg Gilpin-Payne was appointed Country Manager of the company’s operations in St. Kitts and Nevis.

This announcement was made by Digicel’s Eastern Caribbean Public Relations Manager Jerry George at a press conference held at Digicel House on George Street.

George revealed that Gilpin-Payne has taken over 20 years managerial experience in the financial industry to Digicel and holds an Executive Diploma in Business Management from the University of the West Indies.
The Public Relations Manager gave his seal of approval to the new Country Manager when he said, “I am sure that this business is now, and going forward will be in very capable hands.”

Gilpin-Payne expressed pleasure at being appointed Country Manager of Digicel St. Kitts and Nevis, especially as he is a national of the twin-island Federation.

“I believe that Digicel exemplifies key core values that I hold near and dear, such as quality in service, a customer first approach and a willingness to give back to the community in which it operates. That is why I am pleased to take on this challenge of Country Manager for St. Kitts and Nevis to continue building the brand and satisfying our customer needs,” Gilpin-Payne said, adding “in my mind Digicel has a lot going for it and a lot more to go for it.”

He mentioned the marked improvements made to signal quality in the Frigate Bay area especially, and recalled from his visit back home several years ago it being an area where there was little or no coverage from any cellular phone service provider.

Gilpin-Payne also mentioned the recent launching of a new mobile site in the Frigate Bay strip area which he said “should guarantee all Digicel customers have service, unless of course, their cell phone battery is not charged”.

Gilpin-Payne unveiled his vision for Digicel and what he hopes to achieve while the local operations are under his stewardship. “I would like to see Digicel become a household name and a household brand. I would like to see it become the number one company in St. Kitts when it comes to customer care, competitive offers and international rates”.

The Country Manager revealed that he had been functioning in that position since last Monday and the free Digicel hour, which was introduced last week, was one of the many initiatives he plans to implement to benefit customers during his tenure.

Further, he said, “If there are issues, bring them to me! We (Digicel) can’t make improvements to our services without your feedback.”

Gilpin-Payne is one of two nationals to have attained the lofty position of Digicel St. Kitts and Nevis Country Manager. He has worked throughout the region in two international banks and has recently returned from St. Lucia to resettle with his family.
