Minister Harris Hails Taiwan’s Ambassador’s Contribution

~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE; ST. KITTS - ON April 23, 2008, at a special farewell cocktail reception at the Ocean Terrace Inn, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris hailed the outstanding contribution of Taiwan’s Ambassador H. E. John Liu to the socio-economic development of the Federation over the last three years.

Dr. Harris said H. E. John Liu served Taiwan “faithfully, diligently and excellently.  He and his wife came to our country in service of theirs, they adopted our country as theirs and in their reporting, and advocacy of our action we could find no better friend. We see everywhere moments of their contribution to our economic development evidenced for example in the expansion of the Airport Run way, the Seaport projects, Warner Park Cricket Stadium that allowed us to welcome the world, the Jubilee Stadium that allowed us to host the CARIFTA games, the community centres around the country and so on.

“At the people level the interaction has been no less intense. We have eight students in Taiwan, an Embassy there, and year after year our people go to Taiwan on short and long term training. In June, our local businessmen will visit Taiwan to explore commercial opportunities. The bond of friendship will continue,” Minister Harris promised.

Minister Harris went on to wish the Ambassador God’s travelling mercies as he departs the Federation next week. Deputy Prime Minister Sam Condor also spoke highly of the Ambassador and his wife and their contribution to the socio-economic landscape.

Ambassador John Liu, took up assignment in July of 2005. He said he was proud of his contribution to the post sugar development of St. Kitts and Nevis. That he and his wife felt at home and would forever cherish loving memories of their stint here.

The farewell reception was attended by members of Cabinet, Diplomatic and Consular Corps, Permanent Secretaries, representatives of business community and other citizens.
