BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: Family members of Tau Gowon have expressed their disbelief at the death of their relative who was stabbed to death last Friday evening.

“We had a good relationship. He was the first of my nieces and nephews that I actually got to raise,” Pastor Ron Collins, head of the New Covenant Tabernacle Church of God of Prophesy (Saddlers and Buckleys), uncle of the deceased told SKNVibes.com in an exclusive interview.

Pastor Collins explained that he was at church when attempts were made to inform him of his nephew’s slaying but that he was notified after he left.  He further explained that even after making investigations into the matter, he was in a state of disbelief.

“I was in church when I got a text indicating that something had happened. They were not able to reach me because I had my phone on silent while at church.

I left the service about 9:00 or minutes to 10:00 that night. I investigated but sill did not believe that is was Tau because he was not involved in any gangs.

I went to the hospital and I was told that they didn’t have any report of a stabbing.  After that I went to the police station and I met a detective who told me that Tau was stabbed and died but I still had doubts.  …If he was sick or something I could have dealt with that much more easily.”

Collins said that even after receiving numerous reports indicating that his nephew was stabbed to death, he made several attempts to call his cellular phone and did not cease until he cast his eyes on Tau’s lifeless body.

“I did not accept it until I saw with my own eyes.  Somehow at the back of my head I still was thinking that it was somebody that

looked like him and that it was not him…”

Reminiscing on the good times he shared with his nephew, Collins said, “He always enjoyed a good debate and always held on to his point.”

Bishu Isaac, the man who turned himself to police in connection with Gowon’s stabbing death has been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

SKNVibes understands that he was remanded earlier this week and made an appearance before the court again today where he was further remanded. Police continue to investigate.

On April 18, 2008, sometime in the evening, Gowon was reportedly involved in an altercation with a male which resulted in him being stabbed.  An autopsy revealed that he died as a result of complications of a punctured heart.

Gowon is scheduled to be laid to rest tomorrow.
