BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – DESPITE indications of a rainy day, a Digicel ‘Train’ took off from its Fort Street Digicel Showroom and Sales Outlet yesterday on an island-wide drive offering reduced prices for cellular phones and Digi Double to residents of St. Kitts.

After wooing the Saturday morning shoppers for nearly two hours in Fort Street, the train made its way to the ferry terminal – the original venue from where it was intended to take off. But the overwhelming response of persons waiting for transportation or leaving the ferry caused a further delay of the train’s departure into the rural areas of the island.

Island-wide customers of the mobile provider had an opportunity to take advantage of the Digi Double, which was only available if they had topped up from Digicel’s staff members on the Digi Train who were in a specially marked vehicle at the flank of the mororcade.

Persons not already turned on to what Digicel’s executives called “the bigger and better network” also had an opportunity to do so, as four different types of cellular phones were sold at greatly reduced prices.

The cheapest phone that was available on the Digicel’s Saturday morning promotion was the Coral 200 [EC$49] while the most expensive was a Samsung C500 sold for EC$199.

Stops were made in almost all the villages and Digicel’s staff members distributed flyers which explained the various in-store specials and other freebies available to Digi customers.
