Inspector Cromwell Henry receiving signs donated by Clayton Thomas, owner of Higher Levels Fashions
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS - CLAYTON ‘Massive’ Thomas, owner of Higher Levels Fashions, recently made a donation of 63 traffic signs to the Royal St. Kitts and Nevis Police Force.

The traffic signs, valued at approximately EC$37 500, were donated with the aim of making a positive impact on traffic and road congestion, and were received by Inspector Cromwell Henry on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

In an exclusive interview, Thomas revealed to SKNVibes that he was awaiting feedback on a proposal submitted to the then Minister of Tourism, Hon. Dwyer Astaphan concerning an offer to provide traffic signage along the main roadways in St. Kitts.

He indicated that the traffic signs were in keeping with international standards.

He however explained that the delay resulting from the change of ministerial portfolios after the last election did not deter him from making a positive impact on his homeland by giving back something of value to the community.

Thomas, who is also the owner of ‘No Parking Today’ (a US-based company)  has over 14 years experience in the entertainment industry, specifically related to road clearing and crowd control in preparation for the making of movies and music videos in New York and the Tri-state area.  ~~Adz:Right~~

This, he declared, has helped to sensitise him to the shortcomings in the local traffic system regarding signage and control of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

On the heels of hosting Jamaican reggae sensation ‘Jah Cure’, and in the run up to the Freddie McGreggor Concert as well as the annual St. Kitts Music Festival to be held in May and June 2008 respectively, Thomas’ donation is one of the keys to ensuring the island’s readiness to host the regional and international tourists expected for these events.

The traffic signs donated are of the calibre seen in the US and Europe, and the only other place that a resident of the Federation may have seen this type of sign is probably in the “Highway Code”, which is the basis for the local Drivers Licensing Authority Theory Examination!

Thomas indicated that he intends to make similar donations to other government departments for the protection and safety of employees and visitors to the institutions.

He said, “In the near future I would like to donate cones to Public Works and perhaps the Water Department. Not just ordinary cones, but cones which have ‘men at work’ or ‘danger’ on them”.
