    Magistrate warns 13-year-old of gang membership

    ~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – AS part punishment of committing “battery” and “making use of threatening language”, a city Magistrate forbade a 13-year-old boy from being seen in the company of known members of the “Bloods” gang.

     

    The lad was taken before the District “A” Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 to answer to the two charges. 
     
    According to a police press release, following conviction, he was placed on curfew “to be at his mother’s residence from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily”.
     
    The release added, “In addition, he is to have no contact with the complainant and is not to be found in the company of undesirables including known members of the gang known as ‘Bloods’.” 
     
    Police inform that the aforementioned charges were laid against the 13-year-old after they “responded to a report of battery and threats made against another juvenile, the 13 years old was arrested and charged as a result of the investigation.”
     
    Cayon resident Jean Thompson also appeared before the said court on a charge of “driving without due care and attention” and was convicted and fined $800, which is to be paid within two months.  Failure to comply will result in the imposition of a custodial sentence.
     
    Following his conviction of “driving without due care and attention”, Earl Clarke of Bird Rock was fined $600 which is to be paid within two months and, if in default, he would have to serve one month in prison.
     
    Sandy Point resident Trevon Rogers, charged with “driving recklessly”, was convicted and fined $2 400 to be paid within the next three months or serve one month in prison.
     
    St. Peters resident Rudolph Billinghurst was fined $850 to be paid in two months or one month imprisonment as punishment for his conviction of “driving without due care and attention”.
     
    For the offences of “driving without due care and attention” and “leaving the scene of an accident”, Alston Williams of Molineux was convicted and fined $1 500 and $1 000 correspondingly. Williams has three months in which to pay the sums or he would be required to serve two months in prison.
