    Police seize weapon and drugs
    One man charged!

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS - AMES LIBURD of Tabernacle was arrested by police after he was found in possession of an illegal firearm and a quantity of ammunition.
     
    Police reported that the 34-year-old Liburd was seen within an area where officers had shortly before completed an operation on Thursday, April 24, 2008. They also report that Liburd made an attempt to evade them but was unsuccessful.
     
    “Police conducted search operations in the Tabernacle and Mansion area on Thursday 24th April 2008 and a large quantity of marijuana plants were found growing on a plot of land close to the Tabernacle cemetery. The plants were all destroyed.
     
    “Further operations in the Mansion mountain area revealed a very large area of land being cultivated with over 4,000 marijuana plants. Some of the plants were destroyed at the location and some were taken into custody. The plants ranged in height from seedlings to six feet.”
     
    According to police, Liburd was seen after the plants were destroyed. ~~Adz:Right~~
     
    “Having destroyed the plants, Police saw 34-year-old Ames Liburd of Tabernacle walking along a dirt road in the area, he was stopped, and attempted to run when Police approached him. He was caught and searched and an Astra 45mm pistol and 12 rounds of hollow-point 45mm ammunition were found. Ames along with the weapon and ammunition were taken into police custody. He was subsequently charged with the offences of possession of firearm and possession of ammunition.”
     
    Liburd is scheduled to appear before a court of law shortly.
     
    On the same day, police conducted another operation which resulted in the discovery of a number of marijuana plants, which were uprooted and taken into custody.
     
    “Police also conducted operations in the Phillips mountain area on Thursday 24th April 2008 and a total of 400 marijuana plants were found growing in a canefield. The plants which range in height from seedlings to five feet were uprooted and taken into police custody.”
     
    In yet another operation, more cannabis plants were found, uprooted and taken into custody.
     
    “Police conducted further search operations in the Saddlers area on Thursday 24th April 2008 and a total of 218 marijuana plants were found growing in a canefield in the mountain area. The plants which range in height from seedlings to three feet were uprooted and taken into custody. No one was held accountable for the marijuana finds.”
