CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Federation has recorded its 33rd homicide for the year with the suspected stabbing death of a male teenager last night (Dec. 24) in Nevis.
Dead is 17-year-old Zamique Heyliger, an employee of RAMS Supermarket, who is said to hail from Newtown, St. Kitts but had recently gone to live in Stoney Grove, Nevis.
According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for the Nevis Division of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Robert Liburd, the incident occurred at approximately 11:25 p.m. on the Island Main Road in the vicinity of Dr. Walwyn’s Plaza.
Liburd told SKNVibes that officers from his Division were patrolling the streets of Nevis up to 4:00 this morning in an effort to ensure that law and order was maintained as many late shoppers, partygoers and sightseers were out late last night.
He noted that during that period, it was reported that Heyliger was seen running on the Main Road in Charlestown and suddenly collapsed, and preliminary investigations revealed that his body bore signs from what appeared to be a stab wound(s).
ACP Liburd also said that Heyliger was immediately rushed to the Alexandra Hospital where he succumbed to his injury.
Liburd said they are pursuing investigations to the fullest and no stone would be left unturned in this matter.
He is also appealing to persons, who have relevant information that could assist the investigators in bringing the perpetrator(s) to justice, to contact either the Criminal Investigations Department at 469-5391 or the nearest police station.
“Persons can do so anonymously and all information will be treated confidentially,” ACP Liburd added.
