PM calls Beach House Restaurant and Bungalows “an unfolding dream”

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - LOCATED at the site which previously housed the Turtle Beach Restaurant, the Beach House Restaurant and Bungalows are being hailed as a small taste of things to come on the Southeast Peninsula development called Christophe Harbor.

A large contingent of government officials met with the developers of the site over lunch on Thursday, May 1 to discuss the restaurant/resort’s place in the future of St. Kitts. Ellis Hazel served as master of ceremonies for the event and called the development a sign of the “vertical construction efforts” taking place on the peninsula.

Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas shared Hazel’s enthusiasm and called the development “a dream that is eventually unfolding…and a glimpse of what Christophe Harbor will become.”

Following their arrival on the site, the PM and members of his Cabinet were taken on a tour of the lavish 700-square foot bungalows and the open-air Beach House Restaurant.

Leonard Long of KHT Land Holdings led the tour of the facilities and noted that the rooms were a testament to the “skills and abilities” of the local workers who were specially trained to build the bamboo-ceilinged bungalows.

While the government has generally lauded the development on the Southeast Peninsula, some citizens of the Federation continue to express concern about issues such as the sale of the area to foreign investors, environmental hazards linked to such developments and the long-term benefits of the venture.

Speaking with SKNVibes, Patrick Freeman, President of the development company Auberge-Firesky Ltd., attempted to ease some of these apprehensions. “We really want this to be a restaurant where a person doesn’t have to put down a hundred dollars for a good meal. It is our vision that the Beach House will be the type of place where a local person can come with their friends to enjoy a Carib and the gorgeous view.”

Addressing the question of environmental responsibility, Freeman said, “We have done things such as use recycled seaweed for mulch, built a waste-water treatment plant for the irrigation system, installed a solar water heating system and reused many of the materials from the original Turtle Beach Bar to reduce the environmental impact of this development.”

Accompanying the PM were the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Cuthbert Sebastian; Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Sam Condor; Minister of Public Works, Hon. Dr. Earl Asim Martin; and Minister of Health, Hon. Rupert Herbert, among others.
