St. Kitts Nurses Association celebrates Nurses’ Day!! - Week of activities planned

~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE St. Kitts Nurses Association will be hosting a week of activities in celebration of Nurses’ Day [Monday, May 12], under the theme “Delivering Quality, Serving Communities: Nurses Leading Primary Health Care”.
The week of activities, which begin on May 12 and will run until the May 18, include Nurses’ Day Walk and Breakfast Sale, T-shirt and Tag Sale, Miss Photogenic Nurse Competition, Ward Quiz, visit to retired nurses, community outreach, costume party and a Nurses’ Day Service.
According to President of the St. Kitts Nursing Association Yolander Knight, they have been celebrating Nurses Day since 1956 and have never missed a year.
“The Association is made up of 200 retired and active nursing assistants, nursing attendants, registered nurses, staff nurses and others,” she said.
Knight said the theme was chosen because of its relevance and noted primary healthcare is the first level of contact that individuals, families and communities have with the national health system.
“It brings health care as close as possible to where people live and work” she continued.
She added that “this encourages education of the individuals and families in preventing and early detection of diseases. It is the best route to universal access and the best way to ensure sustainable improvements on health outcomes”.
The week will be officially opened by the Minister of Health, Rupert Herbert, and will conclude with members of the nursing fraternity worshipping with members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
