Prime Minister, Dr. Douglas’ interest & Embassy of The Republic of China

Leader of People's Action Movement, Mr. Lindsay Grant
The People’s Action Movement (P.A.M) has forwarded a letter to the Republic of China (R.O.C), regarding their Embassy in The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

This letter outlines public concern to the fact that private property owned by Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas, is under lease to the R.O.C Embassy. Due to the obvious conflict of interest between the public and private spheres, P.A.M has therefore urged the R.O.C to reconsider this egregious arrangement.

The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and The Republic of China have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1983. The People’s Action Movement fondly remembers that our Nation’s first Prime Minister, Dr. The Rt. Hon. Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds, also became the first Caribbean Leader to embrace such relations with the R.O.C in 1982.

Since transparency and accountability are necessary elements of our shared democratic principles, we therefore reiterate the very serious concern that Prime Minister, Dr. Hon. Denzil. L. Douglas, holds a private interest in the residential property that the R.O.C Embassy has taken up for accommodation.

In view of the expressed public outrage on this matter, we maintain that Ambassador Liu’s recent statement on the R.O.C’s position in local affairs should be consistent in word and action. Our expectation is that immediate action will be taken to accord the shared democratic principles initiated in 1982 by our former Political Leader, Dr. The Rt. Hon. Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds, which forged official relations with the R.O.C in 1983.

As per the concerns outlined above, The People’s Action Movement welcomes immediate remedial action by The Republic of China to urgently reconsider the current tenancy arrangement of the residential property.

    Mr. Lindsay Grant,
    Political Leader,
    The People’s Action Movement (P.A.M)
