L-R Alfred Harley, Chippie Sales, Services & Marketing Representative, Rawle Mars Grand Prize Winner of EC$5000 during Chippie Cure Concert Promotion, Ercille French Chippie Administrative Assistant
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER much saga and an extended wait, the media were finally able to lay eyes on the Grand Prize winner of EC$5 000 in the Chippie Cure Concert promotion.

At a handing over ceremony yesterday afternoon at Chippie’s Cayon Street Head Office, Alfred Harley, Sales Service and Marketing Representative for Chippie presented Rawle Mars with his winnings in the presence of Administrative Assistant Ercille French.

According to Mars, he was having lunch yesterday when he got two calls informing him about his winnings, but he did not take the first one seriously. “After the second call I thought this has to be something serious and I called the Chippie office using my Chippie phone, of course, to confirm if what I heard was true,” Mars said.

He stated that the first one caller told him they had seen his phone number in a newspaper as winner of the EC$5 000 while the second one informed him of hearing his Chippie cellular phone number announced

over the radio as the winning number.

Mars, who did not attend the Jah Cure Concert – as this type of music was not his “cup of tea”, told the press he had never won anything in his life. He admitted to employing no particular strategy in the competition, but “every once in a while when it came to my mind I would try another one (text entry) to increase my chances of winning”.

Mars revealed that he had texted approximately 12 times, but never actually expected to win the competition.
The winner said it was the first Chippie promotion he has ever participated in and would continue to do so in future promotions, noting “it is Chippie time all the time”.

Mars, who lives at Bird Rock and works at the St. Kitts Sea Port Authority, indicated that he would be using the winnings to remove some of his financial obligations...“clear off some of my bills”.

Mars said he has been a Chippie Customer since its inception on June 18, 2005, and Harley expressed his pleasure that a post-paid customer who had been with Chippie since the beginning had actually won.

Harley further stated that he was pleased to be able to offer the community a winner who was the epitome of Chippie customer loyalty, and felt that the internal decision made to have the drawing done in this way through legal advice was the fairest way in view of the amount of subscribers who had shown an interest by texting in to win.
