BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WEDNESDAY evening proved to be a time for jubilation as residents of Cardin Home, their families, employees of the facility and members of the community gathered to celebrate the care facility’s 81st Anniversary.

Following brief opening remarks and an invocation, the crowd was delightfully treated to numerous artistic performances, including several gospel song selections from residents and staff of the Cardin Home.

In addition to the gospel songs, poetry recitals, a few dances, a comedy skit and a musical rendition by the St. Kitts National Drum Corps were performed for and by the residents.

Members of the public who attended the event took the time to mingle with the residents and congratulate them on their talents while sharing in the celebration.

“It lifts up my soul to see these people come out and share in the Lord with us,” one joyous resident told SKNVibes.

George Richards, Supervisor of the Cardin Home, said he was pleased with the evening’s proceedings because “it is a good chance for the staff and residents to come closer…and it is also an event that will bring joy to the residents of the Home”.

The Cardin Home was founded on May 6, 1927 and is named in honor of James Derrick Cardin, who, being greatly distressed by the large number of beggars and homeless he saw in the streets of St. Kitts, convinced the government to open the national infirmary.

The residents of Cardin Home plan to continue their celebration of 80-plus years this week by travelling to Cockleshell Beach for a picnic on May 8, holding a cake sale at the public market on Saturday, May 10 and giving away raffle prizes on Sunday night [May 11].

The staff and residents of the Home also extended an invitation to members of the public who would like to attend any or all of these events.
