PM Douglas to interact with nationals of
St. Kitts and Nevis in St. Maarten on Friday night

BASSETERE, ST. KITTS, MAY 8TH 2008 (CUOPM) – Nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis residing on Dutch and French St. Martin will get an opportunity to hear about the developments in the twin-island Federation.
Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, who will be on the island on official duties, will use the opportunity to meet Kittitians and Nevisians living there.
The meeting, which takes place on Friday night at the PMIA Hall, under the aegis of the St. Kitts and Nevis Association of St. Maarten, will begin at 8 P.M.
It affords the nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis, the opportunity to hear first hand about the economic, social, developmental and political issues affecting St. Kitts and Nevis.
Prime Minister Douglas, who will be accompanied by his Press Secretary, Mr. Erasmus Williams, is expected to speak on several matters including electoral reform, which will lead to the publication of a brand new Voters List; tourism development including the construction of Ocean Edge at Frigate Bay and the newly opened Beach House and Cottages on Turtle Beach.
The multi-billion dollar Christophe Harbour Development on the South East Peninsula, the Marriott Vacation Homes expansion at Frigate Bay and the hundreds of job opportunities at all levels in the tourism and hospitality services industry including those at middle and upper management levels for Kittitians and Nevisians are expected to be mentioned in the presentation.
Housing, education, healthcare, infrastructural development as well as plans for the further enhancement of the cruise ship industry, which this year saw a number of firsts with the arrival of over 400,000 cruise passengers for the 2007/2008 season and the year-round visit of the Carnival Destiny between the months of May and September. ~~Adz:Right~~
Dr. Douglas is also expected to speak about what his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government is doing to reduce the rising cost of living and will outline steps being taken to ensure food security with the continued distribution of hundreds of acres of land for agriculture and livestock development to former sugar workers and local farmers.
The most important segment of Friday night’s meeting will be the opportunity by nationals to ask questions, provide suggestions and comment on the Prime Minister’s presentation.
