    CASTRIES St.Lucia, January 10th, 2012 – Minister for Commerce, Investment, Business Development and Consumer Affairs, Honourable Emma Hippolyte has been invited by the Head of International Trade and Regional Cooperation of the Commonwealth Secretariat to address a meeting scheduled for January 12th , 2012 at the Bay Gardens Hotel in Saint Lucia.

     

    The “Commonwealth Investment Experts Group Meeting for the Caribbean Region” is a consultation undertaken in conjunction with the CARICOM Office of Trade Negotiations (OTN) and the Caribbean Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (CAIPA).

     

    The Commonwealth Secretariat commissioned a group of researchers from the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa who worked for a two year period to devise a Guide to assist developing countries in negotiating International Investment Agreements. This consultation taking place in Saint Lucia will be the last of a series of regional gatherings. Previous consultations have been held in the Pacific and Africa.

     

    Included on the agenda for the meeting is the presentation of a Draft Investment Guide – An Overview and Presentation of Issues Arising from the Draft Investment Agreement Framework, Open Discussions among experts and Country Interventions.
