    Two plead guilty at start of May Criminal Assizes

    ~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TWO of the accused persons appearing before the Basseterre High Court today at the start of the May 2008 Criminal Assizes, entered guilty pleas for the offences with which they were charged and are scheduled to reappear before the said court for sentencing.

     

    Jermual Jules and Tijmah Jones were charged with house breaking and larceny as well as receiving. According to the indictment, the two men broke into the a shop in St. Pauls belonging to Rudolph Francis and stole one green and black flashlight, 15 ($10) Cable and Wireless phone cards, 10 ($10) Digicel phone cards and $89 worth of coins, all to the value of $384.

     

    While Jones pleaded not guilty to the charges, Jules told the court that he was guilty of house breaking and larceny.

     

    Presiding Judge, Justice Francis Belle told Jules to return to court on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 when sentence would be passed.  Jones, however, was told to return to court on July, 14, 2008 when his case is expected to be tried.

     

    Karim Browne, along with his co-accused Bevon Taylor, appeared before the court on charges of “building breaking and larceny” and “receiving”. The men allegedly broke into the building that houses Hanley’s Dental Lab and stole from among other things, four cans of Supligen, one Welch’s Juice, one bottle of Island Purified Water, three pens, five tubes of Crazy Glue, 12 Land leather bags and $468.01, all to the tune of EC$841.41.  The items are said to belong to Avon De Costa.

     

    They were also accused of “receiving” among other things, one brown Land bag and three pens.  Having pleaded guilty to the latter charge, Justice Francis Belle told Browne that he should return to court on Monday, May 19, 2008 for sentencing.

     

    Taylor, however, was ordered to return to the court on July, 7, 2008 for his hearing in the matter.
