Basseterre, St. Kitts – AS the organizers of the upcoming Capricorn Bash make final preparations for their mega event, local artiste Gunchild and others spoke about what attendees can expect from them at the event.

The event is being organized by Amos ‘Young Flamez’ Francis and will be held on January 21, at the G-Spot in Sandy Point and will feature a number of DJs, models and artistes including Bruce Rogers a.k.a. Gunchild.

Rogers who had been in prison from 2001 for robbery and was recently released last October 2011, said that he is looking forward to the event and after his incarceration will be bringing a  very positive message.

He first began releasing music in 1997 and then had a breakthrough with a local hit ‘More Gals’ in 2001.

“But unfortunately even before it blew up I was imprisoned,” he said.

Still everyone remembers the tune that was really popular from the younger Sandy Pointer, who was 21, when he was confined to prison.

“At first I took being incarcerated as an unfortunate situation, but later I took it as a blessing in disguise. It may sound a bit paradoxical but it enhanced my vocabulary and I started to see what life was all about.

“Prison life was hard; I was sleeping on the floor; officers would talk to you a certain way and for me I rather to be on lock down where I took time out for myself than to be with the others. There I built some tracks in the prison as well which were more positive than what I was singing before and I moved away from the gun life, because the name represented gun life.”

In terms of changing the name ‘Gunchild’, Rogers said that the dancehall world have several artistes with names that do not necessarily reflect their lifestyle.

“We have Bounty Killer; I just see it as a name but I know that name carries a message but it is more of DJ name and not the personality,” he said.

Since leaving prison and now at age 32, Rogers said he has opened a snackette at Mount Idle, Sandy Point where he sells fast food called 40 Deuce.

“Right now I just opened up a snackette called 40 Deuce, at Mount Idle, where you can get your fresh burgers, chicken, and so on, I’m trying to stay positive and focus on the music more. And I just want to invite everyone out to the event Saturday night,” he said.

The reigning Miss Black San Swimsuit, Roslyn Berkeley and Manager of Divine Modeling Agency, an agency that has been around for four years said that they have some surprises in store for everyone.

She said they will be modeling swimsuits, boyshorts, creative tops and outfits by G-Spot.

“I don’t want to give out too much of the details; it is going to be something you wouldn’t want to miss, I just want to ask the people to come out and support flames, and Divine Modeling Agency, the artistes as we’re trying to do something constructive and positive,” he said.

Keeden Harris a.k.a. DJ Shaggy of Country Machine Sounds said that he will be bringing a different style at the turntable.

He has been a DJ for eleven years and has a style of making fans fall in love with new music.

Harris said that the DJs will be assigned some artistes whom they will have to feature during their set and related that he will be featuring Poopa, Chester B, Gunchild and Young Flamez.

The event will also feature Small Axe Band, Ashro-b, Artikal, Rudii & Balikup, Hot Rod, S.M.I and Beach Back Music.

The DJ lineup will include Freedom Sound, Dj Shaggy, DJ 6-a-clack, Mixklusive Sounds and Sudie Pop.

“I’m encouraging people to come out and show support to the event…it will have special prizes from sponsors,” said organizer of the event Amos Francis.
