    Police seek female shoplifter

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A man, who yesterday (Jan. 24) exhibited similar athletic prowess that made Usain Bolt a household name, is being sought by the police for shoplifting.

At approximately 9:20 yesterday morning, a man was seen at the doorway of Lucky Cosmetics wrestling with two employees in an attempt to escape their clutches.

They were however unable to restrain the man who, on exiting the establishment, took off like a bullet out of a gun running west along Liverpool Row with the two employees in hot pursuit.

They were joined by two members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s Bike Patrol, but the fleet-footed shoplifter turned right into Prickley Pear Alley and disappeared from his pursuers.

According to the manager, at about 10:22 a.m. on Friday (Jan. 20), a man entered the establishment and had asked him if they had blades for Outliner Trimmers and he responded in the positive, but the individual did not purchase any.

“On the following day, while reviewing the tape of our security cameras, we noticed that the man had removed one of the Outliner Trimmers and placed it in his backpack. Yesterday, he returned and was again asking one of the employees if we had blades for the same machine and I remembered his face.

“I immediately ran to the door to lock it with him inside while another employee was phoning for the police. While in the process of locking the door, I alerted the other employees and the man ran towards the door. A male employee held on to him but the man pushed him on the ground, wrestled with me and successfully exited the store.

“Two of us ran behind the man who was running along Liverpool Row, but he was very fast and he dashed through a small street in Irishtown and escaped from us. Two policemen on bicycles also gave chase but the man was nowhere to be found,” the manager said.

The manager indicated that the Outliner Trimmer costs EC$250.

Meanwhile, police are on the lookout for a female who also shoplifted from the same establishment.

The manager said that on Friday (Jan. 13), a female went into the store at approximately 2:08 p.m. and from one of the shelves removed “a set of AcneFree, which included Steps One, Two, Three and Four, and a Black Opal Oil Absorbing Pressed Powder. Step Four is a Therapeutic Sulfer Mask and the entire package cost EC$249.75”.

He explained that no one saw when the woman removed the items, but a review of the security camera’s tape displayed her every move and the matter was also reported to the police.

The manager presented to SKNVibes a copy of the images of the two alleged shoplifters caught on camera.

Since April 2011 when Lucky Cosmetics had opened for business, the manager said that over 10 times individuals had shoplifted from the store and only a few of them were caught and prosecuted.

On August 9, 2011, Trevor Roberts of Pitcairn Street, Newtown was remanded to Her Majesty’s for allegedly stealing two packets of Jerry Curl weaves (valued at EC$210) from the establishment. He was jailed for three months on September 2.

Two weeks prior, a man, dressed in baggy pants and an over-sized shirt, entered the store and removed a large quantity of items from a display shelf.

On August 17, 2011, Verian Baptiste of Thibou Avenue, McKnight was arrested for shoplifting five sticks of Secret roll-on valued at $74.75, two bottles of Listerine valued at $15.90, three tubes Colgate Toothpaste valued at $36.85, and one Jumbo Braid valued at $2.95.

And on November 27, two members of the Cuban football team had shoplifted two eight-piece EasyCut haircutting machines valued at EC$300. They were arrested and subsequently released without being charged after the team’s manager went the following day and paid for the stolen items.
