Two morning accidents…no injuries sustained

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Wednesday (Jan. 25) accident that took place in the vicinity of the International University of Nursing (IUON) could have resulted in serious injuries were it not for the application of seatbelts.

The incident – according to Sergeant Calvin Amory of the Traffic Department – took place sometime after 8:00 a.m. along the Island Main Road and involved motorcar P1113 and motor pickup T395.

The former is owned and was driven by Joseph Brookes while the latter was being driven by Eugene Bloyce.

Amory explained that investigations revealed that both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when the collision occurred.

“P1113 was travelling from Basseterre’s direction to Sandy Point’s behind some vehicles, and while overtaking those vehicles it collided with T395 which was travelling in the opposite direction,  causing it to overturn on the mountain side of the road.”

SGT Amory told SKNVibes that no injuries were sustained as a result of the collision. He however noted that both vehicles sustained some damage.

According to his understanding, both drivers and the lone passenger in T395 were wearing their seatbelts, and he explained that had this not been the case one of more of the parties could have been injured.

“Based on the damage, had the drivers not been wearing their seatbelts, the possibility exists that they would have been injured,” Amory explained.

He continued: “The Traffic Department takes this opportunity to remind motorists and passengers to buckle up when travelling in vehicles. It is a safety precaution that works and is designed to protect you.”

Investigations into that matter are ongoing.

Hours later, the Traffic Department was summoned to the scene of yet another accident, which took place on one of Basseterre’s main thoroughfare, Fort Street.

Information is sketchy; however, this publication understands that it involved motorcar P5971 and motor pickup P6975.

And as far as SKNVibes is aware, the accident resulted in no injuries and investigations into that incident are ongoing.
