Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, January 27th 2012 - The St.Kitts Amateur Basketball Association is trying to maintain their momentum from the relatively successful 2011 season with an early start to this year’s 2012 season.

In a notice sent out by the SKABA Executive the association will be holding its first General Meeting for 2012 on Tuesday January 31st at 6pm at the Football House on Losack Rd. The meeting was originally scheduled for Saturday January 28th but was postponed to accommodate President Kenroy Romel Tobias who will be leaving the federation on Friday the 27th for a 3 day visit to Trinidad and Tobago for the CBC Caribbean Basketball Confederation Congress.

The main items on the agenda for  Tuesday night’s meeting  will be a review of the 2011 season as well discussions on the proposed start dates for the 2012 season.  The Executive is proposing a February 25th start for the Junior League and March 26th is the proposed date for the SKABA League 2012 Official Opening.

According to SKABA President Kenroy Tobias much is expected from the upcoming season.

“Despite getting off to a relatively slow start the 2011 season ended on an extremely high note,” said SKABA Chief Romel Tobias.

“The finals series was a huge success with the crowning of new champions in the Ghaut Bucs and the out of season staging of the first ever Sugar Creole Festival and the Achievers Club Junior Tournaments in November and December were hugely successful with the Creole festival bringing in thousands of fans to Basketball City and the Challengers Hard-court over the 3 day festival.  So therefore based on the success of last season there is no doubt going to be great expectations for this season and we (SKABA) will once again try our best to meet and or exceed those lofty expectations,” said Tobias.

The SKABA is expected to introduce a number of new initiatives for 2012 including the staging of games on Nevis.  The initiative of games being played at other venues throughout St.Kitts including Challengers and Bird Rock was successful and thus may be expanded to include more venues and additional games at other rural venues such as Cayon, Molyneaux and Sandy Point.

Ghut Bucs won the SKABA National Title in 2011 with the Challengers Exodus winning the “A” Division and the Blue Devils winning both the Junior and Female Divisions.
