BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN their continuing investigation into the attempted murder of Shakeem ‘Hotness’ Walters, police have reported that a firearm and a quantity of ammunition were found in the New Pond Site area.

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Sergeant Stephen Hector, in furtherance of the investigation into the attempted murder of Walters, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department Inspector Charles Smithen sought the assistance of Sergeant Rogers of the Drug Unit and use of the Canine Unit.

“Sergeant Rogers reported that as a result of the diligent work of the Intelligence and Investigative Units involved in this investigation, his unit was successful in the find of one firearm and ammunition whilst conducting a search in the new Pond Site area,” Hector said.

He noted that in his request to take back the streets, the Commissioner of Police, Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn, is ensuring that “the strategic networking of all departments is enhanced through training and actual execution”.

On Friday (Jan. 20), police formally arrested 21-year-old Nyon Dasent of Wellington Road, Basseterre and two days after charged him with the attempted murder of Walters.

Hector, in commending the public on behalf of the Commissioner and ranks of the police force, said, “We are thankful for the support of the public and do look forward to your continued support as we continue to take back the streets of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

Shortly after midnight on Friday (Jan. 20), Dasent allegedly shot Walters in Park Street, Basseterre in the vicinity of National Housing Corporation (NHC).
According to reports, the 16-year-old was found lying on Park Street in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

When SKNVibes visited the crime scene on the morning of the incident, one of the officers said that “no stone will be left unturned in this shooting incident”.

SKNVibes learned on Sunday, last, that Walters was still in a critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the JNF General Hospital.

Well-placed sources told this media house that one of the two bullets had damaged Walters’ spine and “he is paralysed from the waist down”.

Sources also said that “his eyes are swollen shut and an ophthalmologist was scheduled to conduct an examination on his eyes”. This particular information was confirmed on January 22 by his mother, Shermine Walters, when she spoke to a journalist from SKNVibes.

Since then, however, no word was had on the teenager’s condition, and it is alleged that the authorities had told his mother not to divulge any information to the media.
