BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MARKYSA O’LOUGHLIN, has been selected as the representative of St. Kitts and Nevis for the prestigious Miss World Pageant.

According to a release from the Miss World St. Kitts-Nevis Committee and signed by CEO-Eversley Liburd and Vice President Joan Millard, O'Loughlin was said to be their best choice and best fits the profile of the delegate who can enter the Miss World Pageant and make Kittitians and Nevisians proud.

“Each year we pay close attention to the St. Kitts & Nevis National Carnival Queen pageant and the Miss Culturama pageant with the hope of finding a suitable young lady to represent the Federation at the Miss World Pageant. This person has to be smart, intelligent, be able to engage in stimulating conversations on any topic and have a knowledgeable historical background about St. Kitts & Nevis and the Caribbean at large.

“She must also be easy to get along with, be approachable, have a pleasant personality and be ready to take and follow instructions and accept constructive criticism.

“Against this backdrop we wish to advise that Miss O'Loughlin will be travelling to China during the summer of 2012 to represent our Federation at the Miss World Pageant. While in China, Miss O'loughlin will be promoting St. Kitts & Nevis as a tourism destination,” the release stated.

When contacted, O’loughlin told SKNVibes that she was excited about the opportunity.

“I am elated to represent SKN in this capacity. Pageantry is an adventure in itself and I look forward to taking a piece of SKN with me to Mongolia, China. In China I hope to promote SKN as a premier tourist destination,” she said.

The 20-year-old recently participated in the National Carnival Queen Pageant held on December 28, 2011, and is said to be a scholar, having obtained 12 CSEC subject passes with eight distinctions, a musician, an athlete, an activist and an environmentalist.

It has been reported that her philosophy is "that we are young only means we have the most to lose by standing idle".
