    Court convictions

    ~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - OVER the past several days a number of individuals were convicted of offences preferred against them, and while no prison sentences were passed they were ordered to pay fines.
     
    Middle Island resident Dave Samuel was convicted of a April 27, 2007 offence of battery and fined $1 000 which is to be paid within four months or, in default, he will be required to serve one month in prison. 
     
    He was also ordered by the court to make compensatory payment in the sum of $1 000 to the virtual complainant in the case, Sheryl Berkley of Middle Island.  He has four months to pay the sum or a one-month custodial sentence would be imposed.
     
    According to information provided by the police, they “responded to a report of a beating and after carrying out investigations, Dave Samuel was arrested and charged for beating Sheryl Berkley of Middle Island.”
     
    Glenville Mills of Molyneaux was convicted and fined $1 000 for careless driving, which has to be paid within three months or one month imprisonment. The offence was committed on September 2, 2007.
     
    A $1 000 fine was imposed on Tonio Hutton of Cotton Ground as punishment for driving without a valid and unexpired driver’s license, and a further $1 000 for driving when not covered by insurance. Both sums must be paid within six months or Hutton will have to take up residence at Her Majesty’s Prison for a six-month period.
     
    Commission of the offences was on April 9, 2008.
     
    For driving without due care and attention, Church Ground, Nevis resident Lloyd Grant was convicted and fined $1 000 which is to be paid within three months or serve one month imprisonment. The offence was committed on January 4, 2008.
     
    Cassimir Herbert of Saddlers Village has to pay a total of $1 600 as ordered by the court as punishment for driving without due care and attention, and driving without insurance. He was also charged with failing to produce his license and insurance policy and was convicted and cautioned. All offences were committed on February 2, 2008.
     
    The Alley, Sandy Point resident Kishorn Peters was convicted of a September 29, 2007 offence of driving without due care and attention and was fined $700 which has to be paid within two months if Peters is to evade serving a one-month prison term.
     
    Having been convicted of driving without due care and attention, Garfield Walwyn of Hardtimes, Gingerland was fined $500 which is to be paid within three months. He was also convicted of failing to produce a certificate of insurance within five days but was cautioned.  The offences were committed on January 14, 2008.
     
    For a December 20, 2007 offence of parking in a restricted area, McUeran Waltuis of Hardtimes, Gingerland was convicted and fined $200 which was to be paid within 24 hours.
