BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - KIM COLLINS continues to shine as he begins his preparatory stretch for the 2012 London Olympics.

At the Aviva International Match at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow Indoor Championships, Kim Collins showed the other younger athletes that age for him is not a factor.

In the 60m event, he placed second behind Britain and ahead of Germany.

    The results were as follows:
    60m: 1 Mark Lewis-Francis (Gbr) 6.65secs, 2 Kim Collins (SKN) 6.66, 3 Christian Blum (Ger) 6.67, 4 Ivory Williams (USA) 6.69, 5 Aleksander Brednev (Rus) 6.83

He retained his winning streak by again placing second in the 200 metres –  between Britain and Germany with different contenders.  Results follow:

    200m: 1 Danny Talbot (Gbr) 21.17secs, 2 Kim Collins (SKN) 21.39, 3 Sven Knipphals (Ger) 21.58, 4 Calvin Smith (USA) 21.71, 5 Roman Smirnov (Rus) 21.79

VIRGIL HODGE also excelled in Glasgow on Saturday.  She placed 3rd and 4th in the 60m and 200m.

    Women's
    60m: 1 Jeanette Kwakye (Gbr) 7.26secs, 2 Yasmin Kwadwo (Ger) 7.46, 3 Virgil Hodge (SKN) 7.51, 4 Yuna Mekhti Zade (Rus) 7.52, 5 Angela Williams (USA) 7.59

    200m: 1 Margaret Adeoye (Gbr) 23.68secs, 2 Cathleen Tschirch (Ger) 23.70, 3 Candyce Mcgrone (USA) 24.22, 4 Virgil Hodge (SKN) 24.32, 5 Yuliya Gushchina (Rus) 24.41

Reports coming from the SKNAAA indicate that our SKN athletes are all doing us proud –

“Tiandra Ponteen sprinted to a season’s best in the 400m women at the Texas A&M Mondo Challenge. Tiandra’s victory of 53.45 seconds was 9/10ths of a second faster than the second place finisher and would position her in the top 15 400m times in the world for 2012.

Antoine Adams made his second individual podium at a meet held in France when he sped to a 3rd place finish in the 60m. He missed out on the gold medal by 1/100ths of a second when the 1st and 2nd place finishes time equaled at 6.71seconds. Antoine was therefore given the bronze after finishing with 6.72seconds.

Brijesh Lawrence remained undefeated by defending his title as the 60m and 200m sprint double champion at the 2012 Concordia Classics hosted at the Concordia University in Nebraska.”

The SKNAAA has extended congratulations to our athletes for their performances thus far and SKNVibes is pleased to join in their chorus of congratulations and wish them continuing successes.
