Savarin and Douglas at SKN Labour Party 76th  Annual National Conference
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Dominica’s Minister of Utilities, Energy, Ports, and the Public Service Senator Charles Savarin, who filled the role of guest speaker at Sunday’s St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party 76th Annual National Conference urged those in attendance to “hold on to Denzil Douglas and the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party”.

Savarin addressed the large gathering at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort on behalf of Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerritt. He listed comparisons between both islands’ political history and more specifically, highlighted the similarities between the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party and Dominica Labour Party, a social-democratic political party that formed a coalition government with the Dominica Freedom party, a more conservative party.

“Here in the Caribbean, we have the distinguished contributions being made by men of vision in St. Kitts and Dominica, but you also have the distracters. And you find that their political tactic is not to propose alternatives, is not to suggest how things should be done, it is not to support what is good and criticize what is bad…the tactic is to attack the leader,” he stated.

Savarin continued, “They seek to destroy the leader on the talk shows, in the papers and in every corner rum shop that can be found.

Senator Charles Savarin, Minister of Utilities, Energy, Ports, and the Public Service for Dominica
li They accuse them of corruption, of neglect, of favoritism…and in Dominica it is a daily attack.”

He also noted that critics sought to place blame of high food prices and rising fuel costs at the feet of the government in both islands when they were indeed, part of a global crisis.

Savarin said that the political tactic being used by the critics was used to create the confusion among the members of the Labour Party, then “ride on the back of that confusion into the office of government”.

~~Adz:Left~~ The learned minister also applauded the bold step taken by the Douglas administration to depart from the sugar industry instead incurring more debt by funneling the nation’s revenue into a dying industry.

The audience was kept rapt even as Savarin concluded his engaging address by reminding them that “no government, no Prime Minister can do everything for everyone” and that there would always be some who would be disappointed, some who would fall by the wayside, some who would be disgruntled and some who would criticize.
